Staple Cocktail Recipes
It's time for us to share our favourite rum cocktails with you. When it comes to cocktails, it's clear that there are a range of spirits and ingredients that you can choose from to make something unique and delicious.
The vast majority of your well-known classic cocktails are rum-based: there's the Mojito, the Daiquiri, and the Mai Tai just to name a few.
So, here are some of the staples we recommend on your rum journey.
The Golden Mojito
A staple of any balmy summer evening, the Mojito stands out as probably the most well known rum-based cocktail out there. Fresh mint, zingy lime and a hint of Demerara sugar come together to refresh and tingle in this tropical mainstay of classic cocktails.
Whilst traditionally a Mojito uses white rum, we’ve found that using golden rum adds extra character to the recipe by ‘dirtying’ the Mojito, making it just a little bit ‘rummier’.
Ingredients:
- 50ml The Duppy Share Aged
- 20ml Fresh Lime Juice
- 2tsp. Raw Demerara Sugar
- 9-10 Mint Leaves
- Ginger Ale
- Crushed Ice
Method:
Muddle your lime, sugar and mint in the bottom of a tall glass. Add the rum and then top it with crushed ice. Fill the remainder of the glass with Ginger Ale, stir and garnish with a lime wedge or a mint leaf.
The Daiquiri
Another golden oldie, the daiquiri is one of the simplest cocktails out there to make and also easy to put your own twist on.
Ingredients:
- 50ml The Duppy Share Aged
- 20ml Lime Juice
- 10ml Sugar Syrup
Method:
Shaker all of your ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a citrus zest.
The foundation of a good daiquiri is simple and starts with the rum. If you would like to put a tropical spin on your drink add in 15ml of Passion Fruit Liqueur e.g. Passoa or swap out The Duppy Share Aged for The Duppy Share Spiced for a Pineapple Daiquiri.
The Piña Colada
Last on our list is the holiday favourite, the delicious Piña Colada. Made famous around the world by Rupert Holmes, this rum-based treat is synonymous with tropical escapes and fun with friends.
Ingredients:
- 60ml The Duppy Share Spiced
- 60ml Coconut Cream - Coco Lopez is great.
- 100ml Fresh Pineapple Juice - we love Frobishers.
- 2 chunks Fresh Pineapple
- Squeeze of lime
Method:
Blend all of your ingredients together with a handful of crushed ice and pour into a hurricane glass. Garnish with a shard of pineapple. If you don't have a blender, you can leave out the pineapple chunks and shake your ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
The Duppy Share Spiced is our secret in this one, our beautiful Aged Golden Caribbean rum is then Spiced with Pineapple, Kola Nut and Caribbean Spices giving you a perfectly complex yet refreshing Piña Colada.
